(Pictures of both at end of post.)
So, about 2 weeks ago I started working on coming up with my own wallet design, taking construction ideas from various crocheted wallet tutorials to help me understand how I would construct the design I want to create. I finished the first one, using a shell stitch design for the front panel, the divider panel and the back w/front flap panel, then sewed them together inside out, making sure that when I turn it right side out that that the divider will be in the middle of the other 2 panels.
Well, it doesn't look too bad, but I did the sewing on the edges all wrong that it truly looks amateurish. Technically I am an amateur, but I mean, it really looks like I didn't know what I was doing. In hindsight I realize I truly didn't know what I was doing other than trying to see if my idea would work. It didn't work.
I added in lining in both pockets created by the divider, and one pocket has a zipper while the one in front has a button loop. After I got it all done, I realized that I didn't make it quite right. Meaning, none of my cards I put in my wallet could fit in it properly. I could barely make one card fit due to how I constructed the lining and how I placed it in the wallet.
Well, I learned one way how not to make a crochet wallet.
So, I started over with tighter stitches, and gave the panels a border so that sewing them together would work better, which it did. However, Instead of actually sewing with a needle, I did a series of slip stitches along the edge with the divider in the middle because I didn't need to do it how I did last time, sewing it inside out then flipping it right side out. The edges looked so much better this time. My main issue with this pattern was that my tension wasn't quite uniform, and my border stitches weren't quite uniform, so I fudged the slip stitched edges a little and it doesn't look bad.
The whole thing looks a bit wonky due to my tension not being uniform, but I made it work. What really helps the pattern work is, not only did I make it wider to fit the cards, but I also didn't give it a lining. With how I sewed the last wallet, it needed lining. With the tighter stitches and slip stitched edges, a lining isn't really needed.
I plan on making another one in a different color, and get this last pattern touched up a little. When I finally get it perfected, I do plan to post the pattern on here, however I dunno when that will be, and I won't make any promises.
